Message You are correct in many aspects of the big project. It's never done on time and it's never within budget.

But from what I have heard from Wagz in person (and I have been in regular communication with him since before the beginning of the process), his initial budget balloned more than 100% of the original quote. Granted it was through the addition of several parts that were not in the original plan, the majority of those parts were in stock at Russell's. Sure there were parts that they had to wait on and basically Wagz decided to use the down time to do some more chroming, powdercoating/painting etc.

If the additional parts were not figured into the mix, 4 weeks is still plenty of time to get the job done.

I'll give Russell points on his and his shop's ability to do good work but that's mostly from a service aspect, not big projects that deviate from the norms of service work. They may be capable of doing the work now but the more appropriate question should be, "Were they capable of it at the time they did his car?"

You asked about the list of other stuff, Wagz would be better to explain it than I can. I've been away for 4 months so I'm a bit out of touch as far as what the current status of his car is all about. The primary listing I mentioned here is merely obvious stuff that the average guy would notice (sans the missing fittings on the wastegates).

As for the wastegates, it's not as simple as plugging them back in when there's nothing to plug them onto (the supplied fittings were never installed onto the wastegates in the first place and were never returned to Wagz after the completion of the work). This was already mentioned in my initial post. Imagine cutting the hose fitting off the stock wastegates and then try to plug a hose on there. That's pretty much how it is with this problem. Ofcourse many of the suspected "leftover" parts have gone missing from their shop so who knows.

The cleaning aspect of the engine is not part of a mechanic's job, I'll agree to that but when Russell quoted him extra for the request, Wagz was fine with it. And given the amount he was charged to clean the bay, one would expect a near spotless engine bay (especially with the motor out).

Regardless of what issues Wagz may have in total, for the $8200 (not including the major parts supplied on his own) he paid to have the work done, one really shouldn't be required to go back in there themselves to have to fix the problem.

You are also correct in the components aspect of a job but again, the time and cost issue isn't the main crux of the debate. It's the quality of work correlating to the time and costs that is the issue.

I don't believe Z1 was under the time constraint. The issue was discussed well in advance of the job beginning. Wagz had initially wanted it to be ready for the ECZA Open House in April but the car was to be ultimately ready for Zcon two months after the ECZA Open House.

This is just the obvious tip of what the whole issue is about and it's up to them to sort it out. But again, $8200 for what he got is not what I or most anyone would call a good deal.
